Banagher Church Image


Banagher Church dates from the late 11th or early 12th century and is the resting place of St. Muiredach O'Heney.

The ancient Augustian Priory was founded by the O'Cahan Clan in 1100AD and occupies a pictorial site 200ft above the RiverRoe.

Walking

Walkers will delight in Limavady and the Roe Valley, with the diversity of the landscape offering a range of terrain and challenges. A few walking areas are listed below:


Banagher Glen and Forest encompasses a 14km walk around the dam and reservoir before climbing over Altnaheglish Hill and through the forest leading along the Glenedra Water.


Benbradagh
This offers spectacular views for the walker over the Roe Valley and the Sperrins and on a clear day, the Isle of Islay and Mull of Kintyre.


Benevenagh Forest
This is an excellent choice for walking enthusiasts including part of the Ulster Way and potentially a new Way Marked Way. The summit offers views over Lough Foyle, Magilligan and Inishowen and on a good day the western Scottish Isles.


Glenshane Forest
This includes a portion of the Ulster Way along the source of the River Roe.


Gortnamoyagh Forest
This walk consists ofanother part of the Ulster Way; to the south is Legavannon Pot, an interesting geological feature formed by glaciation.
